The great discoveries identified by the committee and the web users!

The AFRO PEPITES SHOW is the 1st Arts Market online (e-Arts Market)

We have widened our communication networks and “agitated” the artists on the Internet to harvest a new artistic bunch dedicated to:

Professionals of culture willing to highlight new talents (media, managers, producers, publishers, organizers, distributors, booking agencies…)

Internet users interested in discovering new cultural trends.

This year the Listeners’ committee has discovered 153 projects.

It has short-listed 12 projects which have made a difference thanks to their originality, their quality and/or their commitments. Then, Internet users voted to support their favourite project!

This result is the fruit of a collaborative selection: 153 participants - 6 committee members - 12 finalists - 2177 votes - 3 pepites.

Golden Pepite JUSTE PARFAIT | REP. OF CONGO | SATIRICAL HUMOUR

First pepites
02-Juste Parfait.jpg

● BIOGRAPHY:

Juste Parfait is a Congolese humorist born in Pointe Noire. For him "humour is the most beautiful profession in the world", "Even a baby wants to laugh. Comedy gets the message across easily, it soothes and relieves stress".

His humour evokes the daily life of Africans in general and the Congolese in particular.

After training in theatre, Juste Parfait started his career as a comedian in 2014 with the Brazza Comedy Show collective before meeting Valérie Ndongo, a Cameroonian comedian, who enabled him to start his career. In 2017, his career accelerated by participating in the 3rd season of the Parliament of Laughter, where he met the comedians of his childhood who finally called him "Colleague". That same year, Juste Parfait won the Congolese trophy "Sanza de Mfoa" in the category of "Best comedian". In 2022, the humour of this young Congolese, widely recognised in his country, quickly crossed borders and enabled him to join the Kongossa Lounge series broadcast on Canal+ Pop from 11 December 2022. (+)

● BIOGRAPHY:

Marcel Kpoho is a sculptor and painter from Benin, born in Porto-Novo. Gifted in drawing since his early childhood, Marcel Kpoho gave up teaching mathematics to truly engage in his artistic career in 2017.

Marcel Kpoho shapes used tyres and models them to make masks and sculptures that speak of human beings, in their darkest and most glorious aspects. He is particularly interested in the environment, the suffering of women, sexism and racism

In painting, he has created his trademark of drawing with triangles. A technique that he develops and perfects day by day. Prolific and determined, he sees his work as a mission and creates relentlessly, hoping to bring those who view his art to question the future of the planet and the future challenges of humanity.

In 2021, he received the Prix de la Francophonie from the Ecole de la Loire in France and exhibited at the Biennale Internationale de Sculpture de Ouagadougou (BISO OFF) in Burkina Faso. He continues to exhibit in Burkina Faso at Wékré-Éclosion and at the prestigious Dakar Biennale Dak'art in Senegal. (+)

3rd Pepite FRANCESCO NCHIKALA | DRC | KATANGA MUSIC

2023 Pepites (3)
27-Francesco Nchikala.jpg

● BIOGRAPHY:

Francesco Nchikala is the modern troubadour known as the "griot of Congo Kinshasa". Born in Lubumbashi in the DRC, he was introduced to the world of music at the age of seven by the children's choir of his parish. Five years later, he left his hometown for Kinshasa, where he soon joined another choir. After two operations that prevented him from making any effort, he did not start singing again until the age of 19. His mother, who has always loved culture, has had a strong influence on his life. She helped Francesco to fill the gap with literature. He discovered another artistic environment. He began to read and write plays for his school, as well as poems and songs. Winner of the Georges Simenon prize, organised by the Wallonie-Bruxelles centre in Kinshasa, he was able to impose his talent.

But the desire to sing was always present. In 2002, his mother gave him his first guitar. He took music lessons and six months later he was spotted by a group of musicians in Kinshasa and became their second guitarist. His influence came from the street, the books he read and his guitar teacher. He only started singing in 2003.

2005 was the year he returned to his hometown and finished high school. Between his medical and music courses, and live concerts where he accompanies other artists, he gives his first acoustic concert in Safina, which marks a turning point in his career. The band Manus was founded in 2009. Looking for composers and guitarists, he gathered his musician friends and formed a band. Using instruments such as violin, saxophone, accordion and piano, they were able to make a mixture of genres (which he calls Katanga) such as smooth jazz, blues, rock, folklore and rumba... The same year, he created the Jazz Café at the French Institute in Lubumbashi, where the band Manus performs every last Friday of the month.

In 2009, he was invited to the "Africa Vive" festival in Spain. He then decided to devote himself entirely to music. When Francesco performs, it is a party. The music, the scenography and the dancers are what make his concerts exciting and outrageously fun.

Francesco flew to Barcelona, Spain in 2013 to record his first album 'Open Letters' in the studio. The Open Letters adventure is just beginning. (See www.hamajimagazine.com/fr/francesco-nchikala-le-griot-du-congo-kinshasa)

In 2017, he is hired as artistic director by the complex "La Plage" in Kinshasa and does not stop performing and making his music travel beyond the borders of the African continent (Belgium, San Salvador, Spain, Italy, Sweden...). (+)
