2d Pepite ● MARCEL KPOHO | BENIN | TYRE SCULPTURE ●
BIOGRAPHY:
Marcel Kpoho is a sculptor and painter from Benin, born in Porto-Novo. Gifted in drawing since his early childhood, Marcel Kpoho gave up teaching mathematics to truly engage in his artistic career in 2017. Marcel Kpoho shapes used tyres and models them to make masks and sculptures that speak of human beings, in their darkest and most glorious aspects.
He is particularly interested in the environment, the suffering of women, sexism and racism.
In painting, he has created his trademark of drawing with triangles. A technique that he develops and perfects day by day. Prolific and determined, he sees his work as a mission and creates relentlessly, hoping to bring those who view his art to question the future of the planet and the future challenges of humanity.
In 2021, he received the Prix de la Francophonie from the Ecole de la Loire in France and exhibited at the Biennale Internationale de Sculpture de Ouagadougou (BISO OFF) in Burkina Faso. He continues to exhibit in Burkina Faso at Wékré-Éclosion and at the prestigious Dakar Biennale Dak'art in Senegal.
